Photonic integrated circuits for navigation systems

Università degli Studi di Trento

Industrial Innovation
Cycle: 42

Aim of the PhD is the development of integrated photonic circuits for navigation systems. Miniaturization of optical gyroscopes maintaining high performance is relevant for a vast number of applications from consumer electronics to small satellites and many others. Beside more standard MEMS technology-based sensors miniaturized optical gyroscopes are gaining in importance. The scope of the PhD will be the development of optical gyroscopes based on integrated photonic circuits and its integration with the electro-optical read-out system. The activity will require the modeling, design, fabrication and testing of the silicon technology-based gyroscope.
The ideal candidate has a master’s degree in physics or electronics with proven competencies in optics and electronics. Basic competencies in silicon fabrication technology are appreciated.
