Before arriving at FBK
When and how can I apply for a PhD program at FBK?
PhD students are usually selected once a year by means of a public contest. The call for applications is published usually in late springtime on the Universities’ websites and on our website. There you will find all the information you may need to apply.

FBK offers doctoral programs covering all 12 FBK fields of research: augmented intelligence, cybersecurity, digital society, digital industry, digital health and wellbeing, health emergencies, sustainable energy, sensors and devices, theoretical studies in nuclear physics and related areas, evaluation of public policies, religious studies, italian-german historical studies. The legal duration of a PhD program is usually three years (some programs last 4 years). The academic year for PhDs begins usually on November 1st and ends on October 31st.
While at FBK
What should I expect on my first day at FBK?
You’ll receive your badge and be invited to meet the PhD Program Team, who will provide you with your Welcome Kit. If you haven’t yet attended the Welcome Session, we’ll recommend watching the recorded version to get up to speed. You’ll also meet your research team and begin familiarizing yourself with FBK’s environment and facilities.
Yes, our Welcome Office assists PhD students, both Italian and foreign, in completing bureaucratic procedures such as applying for an entry visa or residence permit, booking temporary housing, and activating health insurance. For more information, contact [email protected] 
Most of our PhD programs can be attended by non-Italian speakers. For more information, please contact the Coordinator of the PhD program of your interest.

Yes, PhD Students are required to complete the ‘Occupational safety courses’. ‘Personal data protection courses, and ‘Corruption prevention courses’ available on FBK Academy. For more information, click here
Yes, PhD students can apply for a discounted annual pass with Trentino Transporti transit service, that allows you to travel on public transport services in Trentino. Please note that a different discount applies for students from University of Trento and students from other Universities. For more information, click here.
Yes, PhD students can access the free parking spaces within the FBK’s premises. For more information, click here
Please note that FBK is not your employer and therefore does not manage leave requests. You should contact your University directly to initiate the process according to their guidelines. Don’t forget to inform us at [email protected] once your leave has been approved.
